Bone Grafts

Dental implants function as artificial tooth roots and are about the same size as natural tooth roots. They need approximately the same amount of bone as was present before the tooth was lost.

Where insufficient bone is present for the placement of a dental implant, a bone graft may be placed. A bone graft creates an environment in which a person's body can grow the bone back that used to be present before teeth were lost.

Bone grafting is routinely done after an extraction is done, or if the tooth has been missing for a long time, as well as to correct bony defects. Our office recommends using INFUSE® Bone Graft.

INFUSE® Bone Graft consists of two parts: a protein that is found in everyone's body, plus a natural carrier for delivery. INFUSE® Bone Graft is surgically placed where new bone growth is needed It attracts your body's own bone building cells to the site and, over time, new bone is formed. Bone grows where the INFUSE® Bone Graft is placed, for predictable bone growth results.
